Our trial Slack plan expired a while back but I've upgraded to a paid plan, so old messages are accessible again.

This mempool eviction thing is getting complicated. https://delvingbitcoin.org/t/an-overview-of-the-cluster-mempool-proposal/393 Is this all stemming from the problem they don't want to archive transactions to disc?
Delving Bitcoin
Last spring, @sipa and I first floated a concept for a new mempool design to a group of Bitcoin Core contributors, which I later wrote up as a github issue (Proposal for a new mempool design · Issue #27677 · bitcoin/bitcoin · GitHub). Over the course of the past year, the ideas have been refined, and I will use this post to provide an updated high level summary of the overall proposal – including the motivations and implications – for anyone looking to catch up on this topic. Proposal overvie...

Yep, it's the inevitable outcome of a flawed architecture. As they find themselves saddled with this classic innovator's dilemma Libbitcoin will become increasingly important. To my knowledge there is no other node that even attempts a rearchitecture, and certainly no other competitive node.

I'm glad to see more work happening. There's so much more innovation needed among implementations. Rooting for you all 👏💪

Optimizing what is fundamentally a cache of public data (chain) to minimize use of the cheapest resource (disk space) is absurd. A consequence of Satoshi's penchant for premature optimization. At this point both transaction policy and memory pooling are falling apart, becoming a Rub Goldberg of competing interests and non-solutions.

My worry is there is discussion to propose changes that could creep in network protocol or even consensus changes
evoskuil17:14
Good luck stopping that without a material user base.

Core's credibility has been put to the torch. The problem is that there's no viable alternatives.
I'll be around for the weekly today if anyone is interested in catching up. I've just got my system set up, starting to run builds and try and get my head back into completion of the block protocol.

Thinking about picking up a new PC that gives me AVX512 and SHA CPU extensions, and some other stuff.
evoskuil18:11
Anyone built their own lately?

I picked up a new AM5 mobo and a Ryzen 9 7950X, but haven't put it together yet. I plan to in the next couple of months though, it's been hectic around here

Cool. I was looking at a Threadripper PRO with at least 32/64, but my main interest is picking up at least 1TB of fast RAM. Can I beat this: https://nemixram.com/products/ddr5-4800mhz-pc5-38400-rdimm-4rx4?variant=46564952539448

I'm usually lazy and buy Dell. But they want like $80k for something like this. Seems like I can get it done for $15-20k.

Nice. I picked up a couple of these with libbitcoin in mind for that box: https://www.newegg.com/intel-2tb-670p-series/p/N82E16820167473?Item=N82E16820167473

But prob can save a bunch by building my own. Just haven't done it in forever.

Can't tell by the picture, but if it's standard ATX (pretty much the main format I've built), it hasn't changed at all and is straight-forward.

We have a linux+clang (auto/cmake/preset) build failure that appears to be the result of a build platform change. https://github.com/libbitcoin/libbitcoin-system/pull/1378
error: call to consteval function 'std::chrono::hh_mm_ss::_S_fractional_width' is not a constant expression
(edited)
After updating MSVC I encountered three internal compiler errors in similar complex static asserts (they succeed statically, just not at compile time) for debug builds. I've disabled these for the particular builds.

Looks like all of our Windows build platforms are now sha-ni.
