I've started on the libbitcoin-network http stack. I'll be weaving this in between installing the remainder of my flooring over the next few weeks.

I'm moving a few p2p specific aspects from network::proxy into network::channel. This allows proxy (connection-oriented low level abstractions, such as simplified asynchronous message I/O) to be a general purpose layer over network::socket which wraps raw sockets (adding stranded handling of asynchronous I/O).
This will allow network::http::channel and network::p2p::channel to be derived from network::proxy via a common channel interface. This will allow the base network::session to be reused as well, deriving a network::http::session_inbound for http listening.

I just completed the proxy/channel refactor and did a full sync, no effect on perf, 58 mins to block 900,000.

I've also worked out the changes required to provide socks5 support (for p2p connections), which gives us Tor capability.

I tracked down and resolved a minor issue in the automatic pruning and snapshot events. Pruning of the prevouts table was invalidating any preceding snapshot, as snapshots assume that table bodies are append only. This was resolved by optionally incorporating prevouts head pruning into snapshotting. This ensures that the atomicity guarantee still holds, so that either the prune/snap succeeds, or the store remains recoverable under the most recent snapshot.

Hi! From the old messages in this channel I concluded that Libbitcoin node runs considerably slower on Linux than on Windows. Is this conclusion/assumption valid, or has anything changed in this regard?

Not that I know of, but I haven't run any benches in a while. I have some beefy hardware running Linux, but don't have bandwidth for the fast sync times others are seeing. I would think it's not considerably slower in any case 🤷‍♂️

Depends on the hardware acceleration on the machine.

I did a couple of tests during the last few weeks and it is as you say. Stock Windows is faster than stock Ubuntu on the same machine. Tests lead to different assumptions but we are focusing on 2 areas, memory management and disk access (my fav).

@evoskuil @MarnixCroes @NEEDcreations @stutxo The individual can also post it via @geyserfund, @dsbaars did this last time for his php nostr work. If specific parts of the implementation or people specifically working on certain things can post under the libbitcoin geyser page it would be much easier for people to
