I believe bitcoind manipulates bitcoin hashes as numbers, which is a bit strange, since the values are arbitrary except in one pow function.
right, they call it "uint256", i agree this is kind of strange particularly as integer representation normally is a platform-specific thing - which it's a byte vector just like in libbitcoin
