@evoskuil @vdeurzen it should be possible to implement a self-consistency check on the data in LibBitcoin's blockchain files, without doing writing.
the major expense involved in a LibBitcoin deployment is SSD wear, right, you want the SSD to work for several years even if there were.
the self-consistency check could self-heal either by repairing, or by truncating/cutting files at the block height where inconsistencies were found
