If it was a proprietary database, I could see a strong motivation for recovering the data (i.e. facing a tangible loss). But since the chain data is a local cache of public data, it can presumably always be recovered simply by syncing (assuming the bitcoin network is healthy). If you do this a lot, it can take time of course, so I tend to shutdown the server at certain intervals and copy the chain state for a slightly quicker restore should the state get corrupt.
