My last work in blockchain was block caching during sync, so that a large memory machine could cache blocks received out of order up to the size of the entire chain, eliminating the block read required for validation purposes. The other remaining optimization to complete is minimizing the scope of confirmation updates.

I don’t think we want to try and stop paging if the OS thinks it’s optimal. I think mlock could cause more significant problems. Given that indexes are more frequently accessed and small they should tend to be retained.
