Also worked out a plan for an object to capture std::cin and invoke a subscriber. This will operate on an independent threadpool and strand, basically like the logger. Pretty trivial way to feed events into the running node. Later (like logging) this can be exposed via zeromq, as an administrative endpoint. Should be one day of work to implement and test. Simpler than logging because no file rotation.
