Here's a final shot for the night. This is reaching 500 channels batched by 5, with address relay turned off. You can see on both RAM and I/O it sort of asymptotically approaches the target connection count. That's to be expected, faster to a number just means more batch or more total.
I used a connect handler to capture channel count in the console, and to stop at 500, as well as a stop handler to log the total numbers at stop...
