Despite the fact that it's pretty easy to capture ~100,000 unique IPv4 addresses from the p2p network, bitnodes.io claims there are 5,471 reachable IPv4 nodes on the net. I was able to reach 4,675 (I don't have IPv6 routing ability from here), at which point the node just churns on address messages trying to find valid ones it doesn't have... a slow trickle of growth from there.
