I'm fairly confident that the bulk of the cost is paging time. Navigating the hash table deconfliction lists is basically random access and page loading of kbs of data to reach just a few bytes at a time. My PC has RAM for less than half the store. Prob worth a run on my big mac soon. The checking for confirmation is about half the cost and its indexation is the other half. Once this is indexed the query performance over the store is blazing, especially with RAM, but takes time to build the indexes. Core doesn't even build a tx hash index by default, so not much of a comparison.
