So now, nearly a decade after @narodnik announced hot backup, we have something very close. The node can be snapshotted while running, but not externally - it must be invoked on the running command line. This pauses socket reads on all channels, which very quickly results in no threads holding a store transactor. The transactor object encompases all writes, spanning tables and ensuring logical atomicity, as a shared lock (concurrent writes). The backup then proceeds with a unique lock transactor until complete, releasing it and notifying channel resume.
