The high level store redesign was based on achieving this objective, which I saw for the first time today and works flawlessly. This was the result of a conversation with @jungly in 2021, which inspired me to restart work based on the v4 prototype. This finally gives up a fault tolerant store, including hard shutdown and disk overflow, with the side benefit hot backup - and can easily be fully automated.
