I spent a couple days refactoring, after that last large bunch of chaser work. I've done several full syncs, including live backups and restores, and have added validation. This kicks in above the top checkpoint/milestone (as applicable) and currently runs sequentially as it chases block order with block being rapidly downloaded in parallel. This is working well, but of course sequential validation at the top of the chain is very slow (about 1 block per second). However it is only using about 1-2% CPU to achieve this, so we should be able to get between 50-100 full blocks per second with full parallelization. Keep in mind sha-ni is still not integrated, and that's a 5x improvement in sha256 hashing - which is one of the most significant costs.
