Also, after optimizing everything that I can find using the performance analyzer, and adding in the above-referenced confirmation writes (which leaves the node fully usable during/after a complete milestone/checkpoint sync) the total time is consistently 66-70 minutes on my max machine, including store creation, startup, header sync, block sync/index, and complete shutdown.
