After a lot of performance analysis on the confirmation process, I've concluded that the current table design is too costly for lower RAM machines, unless maybe there is a very high speed SSD. Mine is pretty typical at about 500MB/sec r/w. With 256GiB RAM the entire thing runs in-memory, disk activity is trivial. Otherwise it is 100% (thrashing), even at 32GiB RAM, I didn't bother below that. So supporting full chain confirmation on low RAM machines (part of validation) will likely require additional indexation (or will take at least a day if not several).
