Fault detection is assured and recovery from the most recent snapshot is automatic upon restart. There is no spot-checking of the store for corruption at startup, as the store cannot become corrupt without detection, short of hardware unreliability. However, if the hardware is unreliable, nothing reliable can be gleaned from using the hardware and certainly spot-checking (e.g. Bitcoin Core at startup) is also an unreliable technique.
