For anyone building for Linux or macOS, the install.sh accepts hardware optimization parameters: --enable-avx512 --enable-avx2 --enable-sse41 There is also one for --enable-shani, but that is not yet implemented. These are implemented and incorporated into the test matrix for libbitcoin-system. These significantly reduce Merkle hashing time, which materially affects milestone runs (as well as full validation). My mini boxes don't have avx512. To determine what level of support is on a platform, and what level is compiled into bn, you can run bn -d and it will tell you. But it you attempt to run for hardware you do not have, the process will fail on startup.
