I've set up vscode on Linux and macOS, and am going to investigate the Tracy profiler, which works on all three platforms and integrates with vscode. It's the closest I can find to the Visual Studio performance profiler, possibly even better. This will give me a visual debugger and profiler in all three environments. Then I'll be working through what is causing the much lower resource utilization *nix.
