Wow, why is Mac so slow? What kind of processor is on that? Wild that it’s slower than a machine with 32GB

I suspect it’s largely a result of not having intrinsic sha256. It doesn’t really matter how much bandwidth, RAM, CPU or SSD speed you have, Bitcoin Core operates more like a single threaded application. The Mac is faster until blocks start filling up, then it falls way behind.

Note that BN also does not have intrinsic sha256, but since it fully uses all 16 threads that’s imperceptible.
