The disk activity is a consequence of insufficient RAM to hold the chain, otherwise the disk would be entirely silent for the whole run. 14.8 minutes to block 500k so far. I'm doing this open window run to see how it affects the tx rate. It should be more evenly distributed, but I notice that since the work is parceled out initially in order, and the first couple hundred thousand blocks finish in seconds, it's still weighted toward the smaller blocks up front.
