I've just updated the configuration so that the existence of the path setting for a site will allow that to override the embedded site. This was the original intent, just wasn't thinking last night at 4am. That allows us to test changes without rebuilding, allows customers to build their own sites, and allows default config to be safe/easy. It'll be checked in in a bit, just waiting for the node repo to clear CI.
