I think that with a simple change to the store block write query, milestone can be cut in half and full validation can be reduced by the same absolute amount (~15 minutes). This could however end up becoming network bound. But it looks like my dual homed configuration might keep up without a load balancer. If I'm right this would put the milestone record at 00:15 and validation at 1:15.
