The custom POSIX mmap implementations are updated for head settling. Numerous milestone and validation IBD tests on both macOS and Linux have shown good results at no adverse performance impact. But this stuff is a bit complex and needs more interactive review. A full sync to the top (not just 950k) should allow memory to drain without a restart, and resume at full speed after a long stretch of not syncing (e.g. falls behind because of network failure).
