While we can still use the fully-optimized streamers for most database calls, we must either use this new mostly-optimized form for input/output script and witness reads or must extend the fully self-contained reader/writers to implement the bytereader/bytewriter interface. So while that remains possible this is a far more elegant and simple optimization and gets us very close.
