After resolving the channel leak, I compiled a build with the most of the logging compiled out (one of our build options). I can the same 650k block sync described above, but with the very large Electrum address indexing. The run completed faster than above - fully downloaded and confirmed in 55 minutes. And with an extra 66 GiB index of all addresses in the blockchain up to that height. The only difference in the configuration was 16 vs. 15 network threads. This small additional amount of horsepower allows the network bandwidth to remain redlined for the entire run. That Electrum index typically takes days to weeks to build directly off of a fully-synced Core node, and we are getting it for free - with orders of magnitude faster query.
