There's been no negative impact from writing the cache. Actually net performance is better. This is non-download test of validation cost, all blocks read from disk. So any measurable change is real. The read cost should also be very small, as there is no hashmap search and the amount of data is very small. The amount it cuts out is very large, so I expect this to be very effective.
